Essay

● From July 16 through July 22, 1994, a comet named Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided with

Jupiter

creating an 8-kilometer fireball on the planet’s southern hemisphere. The comet

consisted of over 20 fragments with diameters estimated at up to 2 kilometers. This the

first collision of two bodies in the Solar System to be observed. If the comet hit the Earth

instead, what do you think could have happened?

● If you were a great astronomer, which among the planets would you like to explore?

Why?

● Venus is not the nearest planet to the sun but it is the hottest planet in the solar system.
